Sleeping probe and Earthquake

I checked the Chandrayaan blog today, "Charn Dra Yarn". The probes have gone into sleep mode until the 22nd. I think this is because night time on the moon lasts for about 2 weeks. The moon's equivalent to 24 hours is 28 days, that's two weeks of Day and two weeks of night. It is very slow. The probes are solar powered so they need sunlight to run. Fortunately the James Webb space telescope doesn't sleep for 2 weeks. The James Webb blog is https://blogs.nasa.gov/webb/, they were looking at a dying star recently, the star was a yellow dwarf star very much like the sun but at the end of its life.

A few days ago I learned that Morocco had a strong 6.8 Richter earthquake. It is a very big disaster and I learned that many buildings were toppled. Life can be lost at any moment in time. I think to myself I will live to see my 80s but I could have a stroke or something like that tomorrow. I think about death every day for a short time but when I learn about a disaster on the news, I think about it abit more than normal.

August 2022

In August it was a bit cooler than July but still very dry and sunny. Towards the end of the month it rained a bit.

It was during August that I realized that we will have a recession in winter. I am certain there will be a recession in the winter months because the price cap on electricity and gas will go up and cash set aside for spending will be used to pay energy bills. I'm not a grim outcome seeker, or a super intelligent man, I'm just an ordinary man that can see where the ball is going. I think many small businesses will stop making profit soon because people will be spending less and they will be paying more. In mid October people will turn their heating on at night and will have less money to spend.
I was looking at the James Web Space Telescope site often. They were looking at all sorts of things. They even saw the atmosphere of an exoplanet and could see that is was made of carbon dioxide; 90's-alan would never imagine in his lifetime that we would look directly at planets in other solar systems.

I can now see what 12 years of British austerity has done to the police force. Many lawless people felt free to brandish weapons during daylight hours and use them. There was even a little girl shot dead in Liverpool. It was very obvious that we had a lot more crime. It has been steadily increasing. You can't compromise the police force  without increasing crime unfortunately.

Several people from inside technology companies claimed that their AI thinking machines were conscious and self-aware. Many people are worried that thinking machines will become sly and turn against mankind. The question is, can you become sly just by thinking or is it a design feature. I try to imagine machines being my friend. If they do things that people could never do then they will create more jobs or if they only do our jobs better then they will destroy our jobs. I don't know what is going to happen. I can only guess.

I try to be happy. I have to pray more and try to feel ok.

James Webb goes to work

I was reading though the James Webb blog,  https://blogs.nasa.gov/webb/and noticed that the space Telescope has been put to work. All the configuration and preparation is finished. They zoomed into Jupiter to see how clearly the telescope could see distant planets and how much detail they get from different infra red band widths. They also zoomed into distant galaxies and looked at light that was transmitted before the sun and the Earth existed, they saw galaxies that are very young and small. It will be very interesting to see what they discover.

I go on the James Webb web site every day now to see what they have discovered. The website I look at is JWST.nasa.gov. Very interesting.

It is nice that an ordinary man like myself can look at all these amazing discoveries for free.

Last Bit of December

It is the last bit of December, the last bit of 2021; the second half of the Pandemic. The world bought itself a new space telescope called 'James Webb'. It is more powerful than the Hubble one but it is heading out for deep space in a place that is out of reach for repair crews, it has to work well from day one. They want to look further back in time and see stars that existed billions of years ago. I also think they want to see exo planets directly. I will keep an eye on the NASA blogs and see what they have discovered. Nasa.gov Is one of my favourite sites.
I can never get my head around any creation story in this world, they all seem hard to believe, both the scientific ones and the religious ones.

What water was earmarked to fall as snow is falling as rain. There has been hardly any frost in the mornings. It is dark and damp and we are all dancing with inflation, we keep our chin up and stay hopeful that things will improve, at least the air is fresh, that is something to smile about.

I am hopeful that my son will be happy in the 20s. That is all that matters now. I just want Jacob to be happy and make good friends and have many happy memories. Soon I will be able to have extended conversations with him and learn more about what he thinks. I will listen as much as possible.

I watch videos of people playing golf in virtual reality and imagine doing the same in the near future. That is what I am like, I'm just a big kid. I remember happy times when I used to play roller coaster Tycoon on my desktop computer. I love playing games where you build things or try solve a puzzle.

Be Happy.
