October Frost

Yesterday on the 28th of October the frosty air finally reached the ground early in the morning in my part of the world. The frost adhered to wooden panels, cars, blades of grass and roof tops. My car had plenty of frost all over it.

The industrial revolution started 200 years ago in the 1820s. After 200 years of fossil fuels being burnt frivolously I can say that the Earth is warming up but the fossil fuels are running out quicker than the Earth can destabilize.

I imagined that perhaps we are supposed to be in an ice age now or a greenhouse apocalypse but they cancelled each other out. A bit like sodium and chlorine, the two elements are very toxic but when they are combined they form salt. Or Oxygen and Hydrogen, very flammable but when combined forms water.

Imagination is free and doesn't need to be right, it just has to exist freely because that is what makes us human.

Fridge and fro

Earlier this morning the temperature dropped to 4°c. The early morning frost is nearly here, it is not quite reaching the ground yet. If I was to guess, I would think the frosty air drops down to about 200 metres above ground and cools down the air below it to the temperature of a fridge. I will see if we get frost before daylight saving in 3 weeks time. Seeing frost in the morning before the clocks go backwards 1 hour is my comfort that the Earth can recover from climate change after the oil runs out. Its quite obvious that the world we live in now is warmer wetter and windier than it was when I was born over 35 years ago; more and more energy is staying in the atmosphere for longer.

If I see frost in the morning before October the 27th then I will think to myself that permanent land ice won't melt and flood our big cities. I will think that the Earth won't have a chain reaction and turn into Venus, a spherical oven like planet  that can't support life. I will give myself a silly man's comfort.

What is special about October the 27th. It is the day when the day time and night time are the same length on the island of Britain.

Now I ask one thing. I ask the people of Earth to invent the low cost high capacity power cell. A small box that can store large amounts of electrical power but cost less than lithium batteries. The person that does that will change the world more that any living person alive today. They will make the electric car affordable to ordinary people like me and allow power stations to be turned into batteries that store excess power during the day and release it at night. It will become cheaper to heat your house with electricity than with fire within five years if we have such a breakthrough.

People... Invent the low cost high capacity battery. As fast as you can.

Frosty aspiration

Every day I look out for the morning frost and I see if it will come at least once before the clocks go backwards on Sunday the 27th of October. I sense that the frost is nearby but doesn't quite reach the ground yet, perhaps it hangs in the air half a kilometer above the ground. Every night at about 3 am, it gets closer and closer to ground level.

The only sighns  I have that it is near is the condensation that comes on all the metallic surfaces; a fine spray of water droplets.

Anyway, it is true Autumn now, the day and night are nearly equal in length and will be so on the 27 of October and the trees are starting to sense the frost is near, they are putting their leaves out of service in a brown and yellow display.

If you are reading this blog in descending order then you probably know better than me if the morning frost came before daylight saving in 2019 in the UK. To me that is comfort that global warming hasn't taken a deadly grip on our planet yet. Silly to many but logical to me.

Dorian awakening

Recently the most powerful hurricane to reach the land since records began did serious damage in the Caribbean and American east coast. We had record high temperatures in Europe also. I put it down to global warming from the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

I see Venus in the sky about twice a year, my island home is cloudy and built up. But it is a reminder of what gasses can do to heat, you see Venus is hotter than Mercury but Mercury is closer to the sun. The reason Venus is hotter than Mercury is because Mercury has no atmosphere and Venus has a dense carbon dioxide one. So the dense atmosphere of Venus traps more heat than Mercury even though it receives less heat from the sun.

Anyway, I have a crude observation of my own. Here in the UK on October the 27th, the Day and night are equal in length so the hour on the clock goes forward. If the morning frost comes before the daylight saving day then I think to myself that we are ok and that we have burnt through most of the fossil fuels so the Earth will be ok in the long run. In late autumn here in the UK, we are supposed to start getting frost at
about 3am. If at least one day I see some frost on the bushes and grass in the morning then I will think to myself that we will be ok. It is crude and silly observation but that is what I do.

I can fix it

It is very much spring now and there are many ways to define spring. Some people consider it spring when the Dandelions, Daisies and Buttercups open their flowers on the grassy Meadows and lawns.
The official start of spring is at the equinox, when the length of the day and the night is the same, usually close to the last week of March; And lasts for 90 days.
I consider it spring when it is March, April or May because I like to keep things simple.

On Paper it is late spring but I noticed this year it was a cold spring and felt more like winter. The reason for this unusual spring in the UK was put down to global warming causing the climate to become unstable.

If was asked to solve the problem of global warming I would use the ocean. I would have boats made that have long flexible pipes that go down to the ocean floor. The pipes would be used to pump silty water from the ocean floor to the surface of the ocean. The nitrates in the silt would stimulate Algae to grow and the Algae would absorb carbon dioxide to build their tiny bodies. The carbon dioxide would then be turned to carbon hydrate molecules and amino acids and remain in place for a long time. It seems very simple but it is the simple things that work the best. You may ask what could one boat do that is significant, it could be running all the time and there could be a fleet of them working together to create a large Algae bloom. Perhaps that would make a difference. The cold silty Walter from the ocean floor would also help to weaken storms by lowering the temperature of the ocean surface slightly.

Greenhouse nonsense

Many governments around the world think there is a big problem with global warming, I don't. I will tell you why.

I think that global warming is real and is a hazard but I don't think there is enough fossil fuels on Earth to cause a lasting greenhouse chain reaction.

In my opinion, global warming is a problem that is fixing itself. The inconvenient truth is that is is more and more inconvenient to harvest crude oil. It costs more and more money to get oil and coal out of the ground so people are motivated to get more fuel efficient cars and electric cars are getting cheaper and cheaper to make. Solar panels are also getting be cheaper to make.

Oil and coal near the surface is running out so bigger drills and diggers are needed that cost more money to get to the oil that is deeper and more out of reach. Eventually there will be no fossil fuels left.

Why should leaders like President Macron steal money from people to fix a problem that is fixing itself?

First Frost

One of the biggest issues of my time is global warming. Scientists believe that Carbon Dioxide (CO2). Is reflecting some of the heat energy from the sun back towards the Earth's surface. I don't think it is a big issue and I will tell you why.

I make my own crude observations, I see if the first frost comes before daylight saving or after. This year the first frost came one day before daylight saving. My car was covered in frost one day before daylight saving time changes, so the cold period is on time.

After all these years of emitting so much carbon dioxide, I can't see the problem, I mean surely most of the fossil fuels have already been used up and we will run out before there is a runaway greenhouse effect. Perhaps the ice caps will melt and cause global flooding. I don't know but everything looks normal here for now.
