Liz Truss Takes the Helm

A few days ago on Monday morning I learned that Liz Truss won the leadership race and became the Prime Minister of the UK. The impression I got from Liz Truss is that she is a problem solver, someone that has been solving complicated problems all her life. She worked in high positions in 'Shell' and 'A T &T' before. She now has a very big problem to solve so this will be interesting. I think her Dad is a Maths Professor.

I was thinking, if they lowered VAT to about 15%, they would get the same revenue as last year because everything is inflated. That would help everyone because it would bring down the prices. VAT is 20% now so when I buy 5 t-shirts, one of them is just tax. I guess it's not that simple, right?

This last six months of inflation has proven that we can't afford to rely on fossil fuels to power our world. I would say we should use water power because there are rivers everywhere on this island. We could put water wheels everywhere. I read somewhere that the average wind speed in the UK is highest in Europe but then I think to myself how long do those large windmills need to spin before they even offset their own carbon footprint; they have to burn a lot of fuel to make each one of those things. Why don't they make lots of smaller windmills instead of large ones. I don't know.

Inflation fixed my nose

The recent inflation has fixed my nose, let me explain.

Washing machines use a lot of power; my washing machine uses 2500 watts of electricity in prolonged spurts for around 2 & ½ hours. That is about 5 killowatt-hours per wash. Before the recent inflation, that was no big deal. Now, things are different. One killowatt-hour of electricity costs me about 30p. One wash can literally cost £1.50.

One positive effect this has had on me is that biological detergent no longer stinks to me. It is like magic. Before the recent cost inflation, I considered biological washing detergent smelly and irritant. Now I don't have a problem with it because I can put the washing machine on eco mode and the laundry still gets cleaned. All those smelly irritant enzymes in biological washing powder are doing all the work so I can run the washing machine on low power mode. It is like the post Pandemic inflation has blocked my nose. The grey water that spurts out of the back of the washing machine converges with the sink waste pipe, if biological washing powder was present in the water, it would irritate my eyes while I was in the kitchen, now it doesn't bother me much.

That is amazing.

Another effect is I don't get fast food take aways once a week, I heat up frozen ready meals instead. I can eat a box of vegan sausage rolls instead of a bag of chips during my down time when I just want to chill out.

Russia Sanctions

I don't like the idea of placing sanctions on Russia. The people in Russia that would be affected the most would be ordinary Russian people that never appeared to be interested in this war with Ukraine. We are all connected so the sanctions will effect everyone, it will affect us as well I think. I wonder if sanctions actually work. I wonder.

We are already facing inflation of cost . I don't know much about what causes inflation. I imagine the national banks are pressured to print money to ease payments but then the added money dilutes the value of the whole currency, that would be inflation. I also think if supply chains were slowed down or interrupted, that would make all the goods more expensive because speed and quantity of supply are key to cost. We just had a Pandemic so I imagine both of those things are happening, quantative easing (printing money) and a slump in supplies. I would call it a potent-inflation or post Pandemic inflation. I love making up my own words.

EV super deal thought

As far as I know, we are going through the highest cost inflation in my lifetime. This means the price of everything is increasing and the cost of living is more. The Pandemic affected the speed of supplies and that brought up the cost. Speed is everything in capitalism, the faster you can supply a product the lower the cost and everything is connected. If a microchip factory can't produce micro processors very quickly then the cost will go up for all the things that use the chip, that is just one example.

My small car has a 30 liter tank so it costs me £45 to fill my car with fuel. I fill my tank every week so this means I am paying £180 every month to fuel my car. My breakdown cover is £40 and crash insurance is £40.

I am paying £260 per month for my car!

Electric cars have 50 kilowatt-hour batteries on average so I could charge it up and have change left over from £10. I look for an EV deal where you get insurance and the car together for £150 per month. There are no such deals at the moment but I wait patiently. People will say why are you paying £150 for a car, I would say it is less than the price of fuel. The fuel cost of my car was £180 per month.  £150 per month for 5 years. No such deal exists because 50 kilowatt-hour batteries cost nearly £10,000. I wait for someone to invent a low cost high capacity battery, that will change the world. Electric cars wouldn't cost more than £25,000 if the battery only costs £500.

The first week of August

It is the first week of August. This month so far I have learnt that some of the objects on the Google map app can be added as a shortcut on your phone's desktop, I can add a bus stop on the google map as a shortcut icon on my phone's desktop and bring up the dialogue box slate when I press it.

I have my mind set on getting an electric car because the price of fuel has inflated too high. As far as I know, there is no petrol station anywhere that sells fuel for less than £1.30 per litre. It literally costs me £40 to fill my small car with fuel, I don't know if the increase is because of inflation, or because everyone in the UK is driving to the coast instead of flying abroad for holiday. I see a lot of cars on the duel carriageway these days, more than before. Perhaps it is because the Suiz Canal was blocked for a week in March and there is a backlog in supply. I have no idea. In most petrol stations the price is closer to £1.40 per liter. What surprises me is why the news doesn't seem to mention it. The price of fuel will affect everything else I'm sure.
