Evercade Club

I recently joined the evercade club, I have an evercade console. When I was young I was told I would grow out of computer games or become sick of them; the problem is they're wrong, I'm in my fourties and I still love to play computer games. My joy of video games hasn't faded even slightly. 

Games are worlds to explore and puzzles to solve. They are trance  and escape on demand. I play video games for a little happy hour or reward for getting through the day. I also play netflix in the background while I do chores to listen to detective stories, the software knows what I like and gathers more of it. I play it but I'm usually just listening to what they're saying, I'm listening to the story instead of actually watching it. 

I was looking at the evercade cartridges library, there are plenty of dungeon based RPG and click control story based games in the library, plenty of stuff to keep me busy. Hopefully  I will get many years of happy memories from my new games console. 

It could also help with small talk, I could ask other people if they use evercade consoles and they could talk to me about what they like. Perhaps I could talk to people  about old computer games I played in the past. The other thing is when visitors come over, I have something I can talk about to them, it is like an ice breaker for conversations. The thing looks very cool to me. 

The Rougecoft dx cartridge looks very interesting, perhaps I could get that one after I play the broken sword collection and the full void game. Plus they have all the duke nukem games I never got around to playing at the turn of the millennium. 

Random Thoughts

I was laying down in my bed the other day thinking what is the point of everything, we are here for now then we are gone. I guess the answer is not to think about it because you'll never get the full answer, you'll have to wait until God tells you or you may never get an answer.

There's always some depth to a person, you can lay down and think about life for a little while and ask questions that can never be answered and be alone in your thoughts. In that place you're alone but that's fine. 

I was wondering what trains would be like if I was in control of their design; I especially think about pier trains because they don't need to be fast. I would make the train look very beautiful with thin marquees that detach from the body of the train so it can look as good as new on a regular basis.  

I was looking at the evercade alpha the other day, I think it would be a good idea if it had a riser so it could be played without being set down on a desk or table. Playing computer games is my thing. 

Evercade Thoughts

I was looking through the evercade website https://evercade.co.uk/ and was thinking it would be a good idea to start with the super pocket system first and then get the alpha bar top player when the pocket system is worn out. Both the Evercade alpha and the super pocket take the same cartridges. 

I also found it amusing that they have cartridge collections from handheld devices that were discontinued. I can play the Atari lynx collection as if I were playing the original hand held system. I never had a game gear or Atari lynx so in a way I could get both of them. I didn't even know neo geo made a hand held game system when I was a kid. 

A retro world waiting to be discovered... 

Proxima Centauri Thoughts

When I was younger, I bought myself a telescope. The first thing I looked at when I bought my Telescope was the moon because it is the closest natural object to Earth. When they launched the James Webb telescope, I thought they would do the same and Look at the nearest stars to us. I was wrong. They seem more interested in distant nebulas and early galaxies; fair enough, I'm not an astrophysicist anyway, let them get on with it. 

The closest star to our Sun is Proxima Centauri, it is one of three stars that are all orbiting a common center of gravity. Proxima Centauri is a Red dwarf star and is very small and dim compared to the sun. We know it has some rocky Earth like planets going around it but we don't know very much else.  The two other stars are Alpha Centauri A, a sun like Yellow dwarf star and Alpa Centauri B, a smaller Orange dwarf star that is half as bright as the Sun. If you look the Alpha Centauri stars without a telescope, they look like one star. 

Even though they are the closest stars to us, the distance between them and us is immense. It takes light 4.2 years to go from the sun to Proxima Centauri.  It takes less than a day for light to go from the sun to the voyager 1 probe, the most distant man made object in space (16 hours). The nearest stars to our sun are more than 5,000 times further away than our most distant probe that has been speeding away from the Earth for decades. It is hard to even imagine that distance, and they are just the nearest stars.
