Getting About

 In London there are about 4 types of Trains used on their metro rail system, Deep Level trains, they're small and shaped like Swiss rolls, foreigners often think they look like toy trains, they can pass through deep tunnels that were built in the late 1800s. Then you have  Sub Surface trains, they're shaped like loaves of bread and can run on the same tracks as Deep level trains but can't go through deep level train tunnels. They have their own square tunnels that run under the old broad way roads of London. Then you have overground trains, they're more like the commuter trains, they even use ac power from overhead power lines. Recently the mayor decided to give the different parts of the overground network different line names because life wasn't complicated enough. Finally you have the DLR, Docklands light railway, they're small self driving trains, they're also often compared to toy trains. I think you have to press the open door button to get off. 

Some people that I know think Deep level and Subsurface trains can't run on the same rails. Those people should visit 'Ealing common' station, they share the same  northbound and southbound platforms. The same is true of 'Rayner's Lane'. 

To me the key stations are the ones that give you a smooth way to change lines by simply stepping off and waiting on the same platform. Stations that take you places beyond.  Ealing common lets you get off a Piccadilly train and Catch a district line train going in the same direction. The district line will go to Barking, trains at Barking station go to the Thames Estuary and as far as Southend on sea, the Nearest coastal town to London. The District line also goes to Victoria station, the national coach station, national express, mega bus and flixbus coaches from there go across Britain and Europe. Three subsurface lines share two platforms at kings cross station, Hammersmith line trains also go to Barking and the circle line trains also go to Victoria. St Pancras Station is next door to kings cross and there is a pedestrian tunnel connecting the two stations, Trains from St Pancras go to France and Kings Cross is also a Terminal station for trains from the north on the surface. Kings Cross and St Pancras are sometimes considered the same station because of the way they sit side by side. Some people say, there is a route to everywhere from those two stations. They wouldn't be wrong. 

Flying Home

I fly back home from the Americas after visiting relatives as often as I can and the same thing happens every time on my journey home. 

I tell myself I like movies, but I usually don't because the same stuff happens, a villain emerges and people shoot stuff at the villain or hit it until it dies or gets crippled, "yawn". I then accept that I don't like movies and stop playing them. Then I listen to a podcast or music and open the flight map, the sound plays in the background. 

When plane reaches Britain, it flies next to the Cornwall and Devon peninsula and stays in a straight line until it is above Portsmouth and turns north east. Then when the plane is above a rural area it starts to roll left and right to slow the plane down, causing the plane to make a zig zag path and make it descend more quickly; it is very hard to slow down a heavy plane loaded with stuff flying more than 10 kilometres above sea level at two thirds the speed of sound. I guess rolling left and right is the best way. The air at 10 to 12 km above sea level  is very thin so it doesn't really give you a lot of friction to slow down. 

The number of times it rolls in a zig zag depends on how much stuff is on the plane, it's usually about 10 times I think. Then it turns again and flies past the airport over London because the landing runway faces west. Then when it turns the last time, they lower the flaps a bit to create more drag, the plane starts to vibrate, then you hear the landing gear drop down. Then it lands and becomes a coach on the airport apron roads. 

It's a bit more straightforward when they fly from Europe I think, the plane descends above the Thames estuary and doesn't need to turn around because it's already facing west. 

I don't know if an Atlantic incoming flight is always like that, but it does that every time I'm on it. 

Getting About Southend

If I wanted to go to coastal town of Southend, I would take and c2c train from 'west ham' train station because the station intersects with several other train lines, Jubilee, District and Hammersmith & city lines, I would carefully use intersecting stations that share the same platform for convenience to get to west ham station; Southend-on-Sea has been reclassified as a city recently. 

If you're a tourist visiting from an area that isn't near the coast its worth doing. I recently discovered that the new the Elisabeth line intersects with a c2c train station, Stratford on the Jubilee line. That is quite useful to know. If you're close to the Elizabeth line, you could go to Stratford instead of west Ham and get the train from there. 

I still prefer 'West Ham' myself because the station is quite compact and easy to get to. You can get to 'West Ham' Station by taking a Jubilee train or district train, or even Hammersmith & City Train. I think even the DLR goes there. 

Electric travel

I don't know if it was just me but I thought that electric cars would be cheaper than fuel cars.

I mean, there is no cooling system, no clutch, no device to turn fuel into an aerosol spray, no spark plugs no exhaust pipe, no fuel pump, no fan...

You get the idea.

The engine of an electric car is just an electric motor and batteries, that's it.

I guess it is the batteries that make it expensive because they use lithium, one of the strangest metals that I know of.. Lithium floats on water and also burns up when it touches water, yet it is a metal. A rare metal that is expensive and hard to work with.

If a better and cheaper battery system is invented then the world will change very quickly, cheap electric cars will become normal.

Smashing time

I was thinking about time travel, we are traveling in time now at a rate of one second per second but I think it is impossible to travel backwards in time. I honestly think that the past doesn't exist, it isn't a place that you could visit.

If time travel to the past was possible, it would be very difficult and dangerous, at least I think it would be.

Firstly, the position we were in 5 years ago was different to where we are now.  The solar system is orbiting a giant Black hole at the center of the Galaxy so the position we are in now was just empty space recently.

Secondly, if you managed to appear in the past in the position of you are now then I think you would be smashed into the surroundings because the Earth's speed is constantly changing because its orbit is slightly elliptical. Whether you are moving faster or slower than the earth the hazard is the same, you would be smashed into the nearest thing that is in your way.  Sometimes the earth is closer to the sun and moves faster and other times it is further from the sun and slows down.

The other problem I thought of is that when the Earth is in between the sun and the center of the galaxy it is moving faster then the sun and when it is on the other side six months later it is moving slower because the sun is orbiting the the center of the galaxy and drags the Earth along with it. It is hard to know what speed the Earth is moving at in the past so a doorway to the past would be a death trap for anyone that walks through it.

Thirdly, you make a space ship that materialises in empty space in the past, that is fine but... When the ship appears it brings energy with it and that energy makes the net energy of the universe increase, now because the time travel becomes a historical event it repeats so you travel back in time and appear in the same place you appeared before. The energy keeps coming and increasing until it causes an explosion.

Finally, If you manage to travel back in time and not destroy yourself and the things around you then you would have to worry about the grandfather paradox and you would alter the events in the time you came from.

Anyway, I don't think it is possible. There would be a lot of evidence of time travel all around us otherwise.
