Just thinking...
I don't think they should be stuck in place and charged on the train. I think the battery should work the same way as a toy.

Train Batteries
Am I the only person that thinks battery powered trains should have charged batteries inserted into them like a toy train?
The battery would have its own wheels and be pushed onto the train like a trolley. It would be too heavy to lift but that is ok. It would then be pushed into a bay slot on the train. The train would take two batteries so the lights would stay on when the battery is being changed and one could be allowed to run down completely and the other on standby.
